Visualizing Battery State of Charge

(Switch requires its own light: Example shown using Shelly Plus Plug S)

Do you have a battery storage system and want to know if there is enough power available without checking your phone? Or would you like to signal to others in your household whether sufficient power is currently available? You can create a simple and effective solution using the Shelly Plus Plug S.

Step 1: Configure the LED ring

In the Shelly app, you can adjust the lighting of the Shelly Plus Plug S LED ring. Select a color and intensity for when the Shelly is "On" to indicate that the battery storage has sufficient power. Select a different color for when the Shelly is "Off" to signal that less power is available.

Step 2: Settings in our app

You must configure the following settings in our app:

  1. Use device: Activate the "Smart Control" option.
  2. Rated power: The rated power should correspond to at least the maximum production capacity of your PV system. Example: For a 10 kWp system, enter at least 10,000 watts.

Step 3: Configure SoC Plan

To control the switch based on the state of charge, use the "SoC Plan" function in our app:

  1. Select the switch control with an activation threshold and a deactivation threshold.
  2. Use the slider to define the range in which the switch should be illuminated. Example: Switch on at 80%, switch off at 75%. This ensures the switch indicates that the state of charge is greater than 75%.

Step 4: Set switch to "Smart"

In the device overview, you must set the selector switch to "Smart" to activate the settings.

With these steps, you can make the status of your battery storage simple and visually visible to everyone in the household. This way, everyone knows immediately if there is enough power available!

  3. Enter electricity tariff: Enter your electricity tariff in your profile and, if applicable, the feed-in tariff of your PV system.
  4. Download Shelly Smart Control app: Download the Shelly Smart Control app to your phone.
